Repair, Maintenance & Installation for the System That Runs All Year.
Heat pumps in Victoria, TX & Surrounding Areas
A heat pump doesn’t get an off-season.
Instead of burning fuel, a heat pump moves heat. In summer it pulls heat out of your home like an air conditioner. In winter it reverses and pulls heat from the outdoor air into your home. With mild winters, that makes it a practical choice for a lot of South Texas homes.
But a system that runs year-round needs attention year-round.
Heat pumps have a few parts a standard AC doesn’t, like the reversing valve, defrost controls, and often backup electric heat. We know how they work together and how they fail.

Heat pump services
From a no-heat call to a brand-new system, here’s how we help.
Repair
When your heat pump blows cold air in heat mode, won’t switch modes, ices up and stays iced, or trips the breaker, we diagnose the cause and explain the fix before any work begins.
Maintenance
Because a heat pump runs in every season, it benefits from regular maintenance. We check both modes, the reversing valve, defrost operation, refrigerant performance, and any backup heat.
Installation
Replacing an aging heat pump, or switching from a furnace and AC to a heat pump? We’ll help you choose a system sized for your home and install it properly.
Ductless
Mini splits are heat pumps too. They heat and cool individual rooms or zones without ductwork, which makes them a great fit for additions, garages, and workshops.
Signs you need heat pump repair
Heat pump problems can show up in either season.
Often a reversing valve or control issue.
This can mean the backup heat is doing more of the work than it should.
Check the thermostat mode and the breaker first. If it still won’t run, call AAA Air Conditioning Inc. at (361) 578-3846.
Is this normal?
Heat pumps act differently from furnaces, and that surprises people.
Before you call, here’s what’s typically normal. If anything below doesn’t match what you’re seeing, call us.
Steam coming from the outdoor unit in winter
That’s usually defrost mode melting light frost off the coil. It should clear in a few minutes. Thick ice that doesn’t clear is a problem.
Air that feels warm, not hot
Heat pumps deliver milder warm air than a gas furnace. As long as the house reaches the set temperature, that’s expected.
Longer run times
Heat pumps often run longer, steadier cycles than furnaces. Constant running without reaching temperature is different, and worth checking.
A whooshing sound when it switches
The reversing valve can make a brief whoosh when it changes modes or enters defrost.
“Aux” or “Em Heat” on the thermostat
Aux heat kicking on briefly on cold mornings is normal. If it runs all the time, or you’re running Emergency Heat by choice, your bills will show it. Call us if you’re not sure why it’s on.
Repair or replace?
Same rule as any HVAC system: repair it if it’s healthy, replace it if it isn’t.
Because a heat pump runs all year, it tends to show its age sooner than an AC that rests through winter. We’ll give you an honest read.
The system is in good overall shape
One part failed, like a capacitor, fan motor, or defrost control
The repair cost is reasonable compared to the system’s value
It has kept your home comfortable until now
A major part like the compressor failed on an older unit
Repairs are needed most seasons
Backup heat is carrying more of the load every winter
The system uses R-22 refrigerant
It can’t keep up on the hottest or coldest days
Heat pump cost
We diagnose or evaluate first, then explain the cost before any work begins.
A failed capacitor or contactor costs far less than a compressor or reversing valve.
Central heat pumps and ductless mini splits are priced differently.
Larger and higher-efficiency systems cost more up front and can cost less to run.
Whether your system needs electric backup heat strips affects the installation.
Switching from a furnace to a heat pump can mean electrical or duct changes.
Why homeowners choose AAA
A heat pump is both your heater and your air conditioner. It helps to work with a company that handles both every day.
AAA Air Conditioning Inc. diagnoses, maintains, and installs heating and cooling systems, so we look at your heat pump as the whole-home system it is.

It may be in defrost mode for a few minutes, which is normal. If it keeps blowing cold air, the cause could be the reversing valve, low refrigerant, a defrost control problem, or a thermostat setting. A technician can test it.
A light layer of frost that clears during defrost is normal. Thick ice that covers the coil and doesn’t clear is not. Turn the system off and call for service.
Yes. Heat pumps are well suited to mild winters. On the coldest mornings, backup heat may help out, which is normal.
Because it runs year-round, many homeowners schedule service twice a year, once before cooling season and once before heating season. We can suggest a schedule after seeing your system.
Most are. Ductless mini splits heat and cool by moving heat, just like a central heat pump, without needing ductwork.
It can make sense in a mild climate, but it depends on your home, your electrical service, and your ductwork. We’ll walk you through the trade-offs honestly.
Whether it’s a heating problem in January or a cooling problem in July, we can help.
